A tremendous amount of business in my field comes from real estate agent referrals. You have to be a professional and be very good at your job, but you have to create a relationship just to get in the door at real estate offices. I network constantly, and follow up with a card and small gift as well as connections on social media. Facebook is especially rich with life moments, opportunities for what I call social tangible touches. Look for something that’s important in someone’s life, whether it be the birth of a child, the death of a dog, little Johnny hitting a homerun. Everybody else is going to comment on it, give it a thumbs up, a like, something 258 / THE POWER OF HUMAN CONNECTION along those lines. But if you take the picture they post, drop it on a card, add a few nice words, and mail it to them, it will stand out like nothing else.
